Richard Lee (he/him/his) is a set and lighting designer. Born and raised in Taipei, he discovered his passion of artistic storytelling and theatrical design when pursuing his double major in economics and theater in National Taiwan University. He received his BFA in 2023, major in Econ and minor in drama and theater.
During college, he has deep dived into his interests in set design and lighting design, striving to utilize their communal goals to create the time and space, and the emotional response to a story. He also has received trainings as an actor, enabling him to imagine what characters look like and how characters live in the world, which is also crucial to designers.
He has worked on several productions in National Taiwan University, working both as a set designer and as a lighting designer, equivalently developing his professional skills. He also worked as an assistant set designer for Daniel Ostling for years, with credits including Swan Lake directed by David Hallberg in Arts Center Melbourne and Sydney Opera House, and Sleeping Beauty directed by KUMAKAWA Tetsuya in Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
He is currently a first year student at David Geffen School of Drama at Yale, pursuing his MFA in scenic design.
His recent credit of set design includes You are Wonderful directed by Yun-Xi Huang and his recent credit of lighting design includes A Language of their Own directed by Chien-Chen Huang. In academic year 2023 - 2024, he also worked as teaching assistant for a couple of design classes in National Taiwan University.
